Matala
Matala is a village in southern Crete, the second most important Minoan palace in Crete. Matala became famous when in the 1960s hippies arrived here from all around the world to live in the famous caves of Matala located next to the beach.
Matala is no longer what it was in 1960 and early 1970. They are far from the small village picking hippies who came here before marching in Woodstock. Today the flower children do not stay any longer in Matala but have given way to thousands of tourists from all around the world who come here to see a legendary place to taste something of the charm of the past.
