Since Crete has multiple cruise ports, your options depend on which port you arrive at. The main ports for cruise ships are Heraklion and Chania (Souda port )

If you arrive from Heraklion port

The port is located in Crete's largest city, Heraklion, providing many options for a short shore excursion or a longer day trip. 

Knossos Palace: This ancient Minoan palace is one of Crete's most significant archaeological sites. It is just a few miles from the city centre and can be reached by a short taxi or bus ride.

Explore Heraklion Old Town: Wander the city's streets to discover Venetian architecture, including the Koules Fortress at the harbour entrance, the Morosini Fountain, and the Venetian Loggia.

Koules Fortress: This is the symbol of Heraklion Town. It stands at the entrance of the port and dominates the lovely Venetian harbour.

Archaeological Museum: This is one of the richest in collections. It houses findings exclusively from Crete, and the most important collections come from Knossos, Phaestos, and Gortyn.

Μοrosini Fountain (Lions Square): One of the most famous fountains of Heraklion and a reference point for both its residents and visitors, Morosini Fountain is currently one of the most beautiful monuments of the city.

Agios Titos: The church of Agios Titos was originally constructed in the 10th century by the Byzantines. Later on, it was renovated by the Venetians, and when Crete was conquered by the Ottomans, it was turned into a mosque.

Venetian Loggia: In the centre of the town and close to the old port of Heraklion, there is an impressive building, the Venetian Loggia.

If you arrive in Chania (Souda Port)

Chania Old Town: Souda Port is located near Chania, known for its beautiful Venetian Harbour and charming Old Town. A local bus runs regularly from the port to the town centre.

Wine tasting: Explore the local Cretan wine industry with a tour to a traditional winery. You can taste indigenous grape varieties and experience the island's culinary traditions.
