Mirthios

Mirthios, is a lovely village in the south coast of Crete, famous for its amazing view of Plakias bay with its beautiful beaches and the amazing countryside area. Mirthios is a beautiful village with excellent taverns. The narrow streets are perfect for a short walk. From Mirthios you have a wonderful view to the bay of Plakias.

The name of the village comes from the herb myrtle ("myrtia" in Greek) that is grown in the area around the village.  Initially, the residents had built their village beside the sea which included a fishing jetty and a few houses, but later they were forced to move to the surrounding hills in order to protect themselves from the pirates' attacks.
