Sights of Heraklion in Crete

Knossos Palace:

This ancient Minoan palace is one of Crete's most significant archaeological sites. It is just a few miles from the city centre and can be reached by a short taxi or bus ride.

Archaeological Museum:

This is one of the richest collections. It houses findings exclusively from Crete, and the most important collections come from Knossos, Phaestos, and Gortyn.

Explore Heraklion:

Old Town: Wander the city's streets to discover Venetian architecture, including the Koules Fortress at the harbour entrance, the Morosini Fountain, and the Venetian Loggia.

Koules Fortress: This is the symbol of Heraklion Town. It stands at the entrance of the port and dominates the lovely Venetian harbour.

Μοrosini Fountain (Lions Square): One of the most famous fountains of Heraklion and a reference point for both its residents and visitors, Morosini Fountain is currently one of the most beautiful monuments of the city.

Agios Titos: The church of Agios Titos was originally constructed in the 10th century by the Byzantines. Later on, it was renovated by the Venetians, and when Crete was conquered by the Ottomans, it was turned into a mosque.

Venetian Loggia: In the centre of the town and close to the old port of Heraklion, there is an impressive building, the Venetian Loggia.
