Legal certificates

Couples should get in contact with Municipality of Rethymno before arriving in order to get information about the following certificates: Legal papers for civil weddings in Crete- Greece. For a legal wedding which will also be accepted in your country of origins, the following documents have to be presented to the Greek local authorities: Passport or valid Identity Documents of both the bride and groom, full birth certificates of both parties, certificate of Non Impediment to Marriage, divorce certificate / Decree Absolute (in a case of a divorce). All the documents must be translated in Greek. You will also need two witnesses during the ceremony.
Notice: In order to be legal all documents must be sent to us by fax or courier service 6 weeks before the wedding. Be sure that you will bring with you all the original documents. Couples must extend their stay in Crete for at least a working day aﬅer the wedding in order to complete and sign all legal documents in the local city hall.
