Missiria is one of the 3 consecutive outskirts of Rethymno, spaced 3, 4 and 5 km east of the city, respectively.
Previously, Missiria were separate settlements, which the residential development integrated into the urban area of Rethymnon. In front of the settlements a long sandy beach unfolds, which is an extension of the long beach city that starts east of the port. It is very well organized, with too many options for food, drink and accommodation. Like in all parts of the beach front, here also lay turtles caretta caretta, which are threatened by extinction. Next to the Bay of Rethymnon there is one of the three most important places for the species, that generates more than 400 nests per year.
