Crete means hospitality, friendship, "raki" nights and really tasty traditional Cretan food!
Makrigialos combines both…
the long beach and several sandy coves with the soft and shallow waters that are never overcrowded, suitable for non-swimmers and children and, of course, the traditional Cretan food!
The village is situated in the South East of Crete, just 120km from Heraklion and it is famous for its beach, which is very clear, long and awarded with “blue flag”.
Along the beach there is a good variety of taverns and the fishing harbor being the most scenic part of the village. The small village has also plenty of amenities e.g. supermarkets, boutiques, banks, one pharmacy, doctor, dentist, florist, “rent a car” offices, discos, pubs, travel agents for organizing excursions, marine for yachts and fishing. Also, there is a street market (09.00-14.00) each Friday on the cross road to Agios Stefanos near the harbor entrance.
Makrigialos is the ideal starting point for daily all-day long visits to archeological or other interest places such as Ancient Zakros, Toplou monastery, Palm tree beach Vai, Ancient Itanos, Ancient Gournia, Kritsa, Panagia monastery, Lato etc. There are excellent footpaths for people who like being near to nature: Kapsa monastery, St. Stefanos forest, Pefki. There are daily cruises to various islands: Koufonisi, Chrisi.
This small village has plenty to offer everybody. You will live here feeling totally refreshed and relaxed with a new concept of the word "Holidays"
